This hotel is close to the heart of Kyoto. I will stay here again next time.
I liked the location and the size and cleanliness of the room.
I enjoyed the easy access from a major hub of Kyoto plus once checked in to the hostel I could enter the area that contained the rooms at any hour without troubling the hotel staff but that isn't to say it was unsafe because the entrance is protected by a locked door that is opened with a password. So it is convenient in somany ways.
If you dislike the no frills approach of hostels then I imagine that this one would also disappoint you but if you know what to expect then I imagine most everyone would be extremely satisfied staying here
I like the location, it's very close to main bus station and convenient to take city bus to everywhere. Room is clean and shower is clean as well. Staff there is really nice and you can ask some useful information from receiption by english.
The owner and staff are very friendly and gave a lot of good advice. The sake bar (essentially the hostel's lobby) is top-notch and has televisions, wifi and some excellent food offerings. The location is right in the heart of Kyoto and provides easy access to just about anywhere. Free morning coffee and tea in the lobby. There's not much to the rooms, but they are clean and priced right.
Very nice hostel with a 2 person room. No individual bathroom, but the hostel is actually relatively small, so not too many people to share facilities with. The owner is a really nice woman who also runs the sake bar downstairs, where can have a go and explore some of the typical sake's from Kyoto and other places. Location is really excellent, and for this price it's an absolute steal! Probably because the Hostel isn't open that long yet, so better make use of this great deal while you still can! Oh, and as usual in Japan: free wifi access.
Selection of Sake's available and V friendly and helpful staff.
Was not sure what to expect when we booked this Hostel, it was the only place that had any vacancy in Kyoto for the dates we were looking at and I am so glad that we found it. Would definitely stay again and for longer,we were travelling with two children and were able to stay in a 4 bunk room which was great. The kids loved the hostel and ranked it it one of their favorite places during our trip to Japan. It was very clean, the cozy duvet was a big hit. There were lockers in the rooms should you need them and a cool sake bar downstairs that we didn't get to try but maybe next time. The location can't be beat, it is across the street from a subway station and there is easy bus access from Kyoto station. The main Gion shopping drag is around the corner and Pontocho Street is a two minute walk. The owners were very nice and allowed us to leave our luggage in the bar on the day that we checked out and come back later to pick it up. A great place to stay and a fantastic location.
It's in a good lovation. Heat / AC Very clean. Bar on first floor.
The very "bare-bones" minimum. No phone or even a box of tissues in the room. The one washing machine was always in use. The only 2 showers are on 3rd floor.
Cracking location, friendly staff who made good recommendations for Sake to try in the bar downstairs. Beer for 400 yen.
Bar was quiet and didn't really feel like somewhere we could just sit and chill without buying a few drinks. Could have done with a sink on the second floor.
Easy to access. 1 minute from Keihan Line Gion-Shijo Station. ( very near from Shijo-Oohashi Bridge) Beds and rooms are really new and so comfortable. All of the staffs are very friendly and kind to hostellers. Free coffee and Japanese tea at the common room on the third floor. I' d like to stay here when I come to Kyoto again. Thank you very much!!
Great location on river makes it easy to find and is a very short walk to a major bus station and subway. Very cheap and the Sake bar downstairs is fantastic with great staff willing to offer lots of help and advice.
The only place we stayed that didn't provide a towel. But as this is a hostel we had our own anyway.
1. Location, location, location! Prime location! 2. Lucky that my roomates come from all over the world. It''s really interesting to chat at night. 3. Clean, spacious, having every necessary facility.
1. The reception is in the bar, not in the hostel, which means if you wanna leave your luggage on the check-out day, you have to wait until the bar open. However, to avoid the crazy crowds in those famous maple spots, it is somehow a must to start out early... 2. Do not have common social space inside the hostel. If you wanna meet some friends, you have to go to the bar...
The staff was very nice and the price was reasonable for Japan. Also, although not metro-accessible, the location is good for east Kyoto attractions including temples and shrines.
The hostel has a very sterile atmosphere, and the rooms are tiny, even for Japan. I stayed at an EasyHotel once in London, and Jam Hostel Kyoto reminded me of that stay, down to the airplane style bathrooms. The best room seems to be the 8 bed mixed room on the 3rd floor (maybe room 3A?) which is a good size and has a big window. My room was barely bug enough for the 2 bunk beds, and the lockers were too small to fit anyone's bag, meaning the luggage took up the rest of the floor space. Also, I was a bit confused about the location; on the map it appears close to what looks like a metro subway stop, but that is actually a private railway line. To get to the hostel from Kyoto Station, you take buses 4, 17, or 205 from bus bay 2A and get off at Shijo Kawaramachi, and then walk about 3 blocks to the hostel. Also, there is no common space to speak of. It was a fine, utilitarian place to stay, but even compared to my hostel in Kyoto, it was way less comfortable and lacked charm.
Fantastic, friendly staff, with easily enough English around. They're always up for a chat or helping you out. Sake bar will introduce you to many, complex sake that don't taste like kerosene. Literally in front of Gion-Shijo subway exit (9? Far northern one), looking across the river to Gion nightlife etc. No curfew. Best backpackers/cheap place in Japan I've seen. Good people in the dorms, too.
